No Luck Needed for UM Debate in Las Vegas

On October 21-23, The UM Debate Team Traveled to The University of Nevada, Las Vegas to compete against many of the best university debate teams in the west.  The UM team of Jiaying Li and Julia Lynch won for out of six preliminary debates to advance into the quarterfinals where they lost on a split decision to Emporia State University from Kansas.  UM posted wins over debaters from The University of Texas at San Antonio, The University of Wyoming, Arizona State, and San Francisco State.  Next for the UM Policy Team is the American Debate Association Fall Championship at Wake Forest University.  Parliamentary debaters will travel to San Francisco to compete at Dominican University.  The team is coached by Patrick Waldinger and David Steinberg.  Participation in debate is open to all UM undergraduate students.
